I was here earlier with a colleague, and somehow, the drab interior and not-so-pimped furnishings made us think that this is more local and authentic than its competitors.
We got several items: I got the squid simmering in its own ink, a fish soup, and the tripe. Plus we washed it in beer. These were not spectacular and fabulously amazing, but it was home food nevertheless, something that you would expect a Basque grandma cook for you. Except that it is delivered by young waiters in white.
Go here for a local experience. Don't go here if you want ambiance. The food is real, and while it won't earn any Michelin stars, it will definitely show tradition.
And yes, they charge for the bread, but it isn't secret at all. It's called a cover charge, and this part of Europe has it quite common. It's 1 EUR per table so it really isn't that bad.
This was a great time with local dinners . Our group had a fantastic time chatting with them . We ordered the paella , the roast chicken and the veal meatballs . It was served with bread . We also ordered a pitcher of sangria .
I will remember this meal forever and the fun we had . The man who was bar tending , I think he may have been the owner , was very nice . He even gave me some local grapes from the vineyards from la Rioja . The grapes were amazing .
Not bad, certainly a greater variety of tapas than usual. We had two things, the squid in black ink and the anchovies in butter and garlic, both were good but nothing special.
They have a secret bread charge which peeves me, so expect the bill to be greater than elected.
The house red was 6 euros a bottle and wasn't bad!!!!
Menu in English and German.
